All Anti-Religious Billboards Are Stupid

What’s the deal with this silly billboard? WFTV Channel 9 reports:
At first glance the sign looked like a children’s cartoon, but the message next to the fairy princess stirred emotions.”When you condemn all religions and say they are a fairytale that is wrong,” said Rich Stormes, a nearby business owner.
The billboard went up a week before Easter and business at the restaurant went down.
“Easter Sunday is usually a busy good day,” said John Russel, an employee at Straub’s. “Easter Sunday business was down by two thirds.”
Since it’s so close, John Russel’s customers thought the restaurant paid for the billboard. To clear any confusion up, Russel put up a sign of his own and called MediaNet, the company who owns the billboard.
MediaNet said it had no idea the sign was there and someone put it up illegally in the middle of the night.
Wow–that’s a hell of a project for the middle of the night.
Do a little research, Mr. owner-of-Straub’s. I mean, maybe a couple of schmucks in surgical masks could have thrown this thing up with a bucket of rubber cement, but there’s no way they could have printed the damn thing, right? The resolution of the picture is too poor for me to know for sure, but it looks like a professional job. Contact some local printing shops, see what you can dig up.
And then irrefutably show in a court of law that their mischievous project cost you two-thirds of your usual Easter Sunday business. And then enjoy a margarita; you earned it.

I guess I could sue when religious signs are slapped up proclaiming “Jesus Saves!” as well. It’s called freedom of speech, get over it.
Oh, yes, by the way the story has been pulled from the WFTV website, more freedom of speech likely a la religious right. That should make them happy campers.

Hold on Olowkow–the group that put up the billboard could be sued only because they put it up illegally. This has nothing to do with free speech.
And anyway, putting up a sign that promotes something–like “Christianity is good”– is okay. Putting up a sign that demotes something–like “Islam is bad”–is not okay. There’s a distinct difference between the two.

Nope… Freedom of speech goes both ways. All believers think that those “other” beliefs are fairy tales. Saying “Jesus died for your sins” is pretty much saying as much. If your faith is true, why should the sign matter. Why is freedom of speech fine for one opinion, but not another?
Just because some jittery sign folks claimed that it was put up illegally, doesn’t mean that it is so… they may be afraid of irrational theists who want freedom of speech for themselves that they don’t want those who believe differently to share in.
Olokow is correct. This sounds like theistic bullying. Perhaps the believers ought to pray to their omniscient invisible friend to strike the sign down. In the United States freedom of speech means that you have the freedom to buy signage… even if it offends other people. Crosses offend me– they are macab… but I don’t make a stink about such. I think theists ought to either be as private as they wish nonbelievers to be or to respect their right to their opinion just as they wish to have their own opining respected.

I know! You guys are both missing the point. This has nothing to do with freedom of speech. It’s about a crime–vandalism–that led to further damages to local businesses.
This has nothing to do with theism vs. atheism. Sorry.

All those religions are fake. Except for Jesus of course! That’s proven by the Holy Bible!!
