Pa. Truckers Confused About Fuel Costs

Scores of truckers took to the highways and streets around the Capitol on Monday and blasted their horns to protest rising fuel prices.
As the protest convoy circled the block, about 100 people gathered on the Capitol steps to urge state lawmakers and Gov. Ed Rendell to eliminate Pennsylvania’s highest-in-the-nation diesel fuel tax of 38.1 cents per gallon.
“All the state taxes and the federal tax must come off of fuel,” said Mark Kirsch, an independent truck driver from Myerstown who organized the protest. “We’re going to take our country back.”
Who is this guy, a Ron Paul-nut? Sounds like it.
These truckers are a little confused, though. I mean why are they protesting the taxes now, when actually the price of oil is rising and the taxes have remained the same. Right, Pocono Record?
The rates for [fuel taxes] have remained stable since 2006, said Revenue Department spokeswoman Stephanie Weyant.
Ah, see? So unless the truckers’ protest got delayed by two years, they’re shouting at the wrong people.
Not that protesting taxes is a bad thing, though.

Professional drivers are asking American Citizens to participate with us in the “National Shut-Down”
This is an issue effecting all of us and we MUST take a stand NOW. Our government IS a major contributing factor in the outrageous price of fuel, and the struggle American citizens are experiencing making ends meet. We must take this action to get their attention. All other avenues has only fallen on deaf ears - our government is ignoring the will, and needs, of the American people.
