Now we know why the Clintons refused to release their tax returns for so long. It wasn’t because of anything scandalous, it’s simply because they made so much damn money. Refresh my memory on the exact amount, Washington Post:

In the past eight years, Bill and Hillary Clinton earned a combined $109 million, with the former president collecting nearly half of that money as a speaker hired at times by companies that have been among his wife’s most generous political supporters.

Whoa! $109 million? That’s enough to please Dr. Evil.

But at least they weren’t skipping out on taxes, and I’m sure they donated a large portion to charities, right?

The Clintons paid $33 million in federal taxes during the eight-year period and donated $10 million to charity, said Jay Carson, a Clinton campaign spokesman.

10% of their total income went to charity? Not bad at all.

And who’s to say they didn’t earn it? I mean, with Hillary’s salary stuck at the national Senator level, I’m sure Bill was working hard.

In 2005, Bill Clinton averaged almost a speech a day — 352 for the year — though only about 20 percent were for personal income. On one day in Canada, he made $475,000 for two speeches, more than double his annual salary as president.

352 speeches is almost an unbelievable amount. Wait, scratch that: 352 speeches is an unbelievable amount. Is this another Clinton embellishment, just like Hillary and her sniper fire?

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Dick Morris says.
