Global Warming Update(s)

Positive proof of global warming

Al Gore, during a recent interview on 60 minutes, said (courtesy of ecorazzi.com), “I think that those people [who don’t believe global warming is man-made] are in such a tiny, tiny minority now with their point of view, they’re almost like the ones who still believe that the moon landing was staged in a movie lot in Arizona and those who believe the world is flat.”

Really, Al Gore? How do you respond to this article? (from the BBC):

Global temperatures ‘to decrease’

Global temperatures for 2008 will be slightly cooler than last year as a result of the cold La Nina current in the Pacific, UN meteorologists have said.

Wait–did we create the La Nina current? Or is there an offshoot chance that global temperatures are out of our control? Just a thought.

A minority of scientists question whether this means global warming has peaked and argue the Earth has proved more resilient to greenhouse gases than predicted.

Oh those crazy “scientists in the minority,” what with their ideas of gravity, or a heliocentric solar system model, or the big bang, etc.

Let’s move on. Here’s another global warming-related article, this time from the Guardian (what’s up with British newspapers reporting anti-man-made global warming news? Or a better question: what’s up with American newspapers not reporting anti-man-made global warming news?):

Lloyd’s warns of a lack of natural disasters

Lloyd’s of London warned yesterday that an absence last year of natural disasters or man-made accidents was putting pressure on firms to reduce premiums in 2008.

Almost half of the 320-year-old market’s business was conducted in the US last year. It is a major insurer of the Florida seaboard and oil rigs in the gulf of Mexico. In 2005, a series of natural disasters culminated in Hurricane Katrina clattering into New Orleans. The clean-up bill pushed Lloyd’s into a £103m loss.

You saw An Inconvenient Truth, right? Remember the scene where Al Gore blamed Hurricane Katrina on man-made global warming, and then went on to warn that even bigger natural disasters loomed?

I guess he wasn’t talking about 2007.
