Obama Wants “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Repealed — Or So He Says

I hope you’re not one of those people who think Barack Obama is “above politics,” because he’s not; he’s your typical, run-of-the-mill, pandering politician — just like McCain, Hillary, and the rest of Washington. Read the following snippet from CNN, and I’ll explain afterwards:

The Democratic presidential front-runner told The Advocate, a gay magazine, that he wants to repeal the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy on gays, which was instituted during the Clinton administration.

The interview comes after Obama was criticized by gay advocates for not speaking to the gay media.

Now see, you may have read that and thought, “Oh, this is just an example of one of Obama’s many liberal positions; it’s just how he views the world.” And maybe you’re right.

But this time, I don’t think so. I think Obama knows that the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, which was instituted by the Democratic Clinton administration in 1993, has worked very well, and allows gays to serve in the military while avoiding complicated and unnecessary sexual conflicts on the front lines of a war.

I know — the policy isn’t perfect, but the battlefield is no place to play around with potentially disruptive sexual confrontations. I don’t want an openly gay military as much as I don’t want an openly straight military. I want the finest, hardest working, most dedicated fighting force of asexual men there is.

But I digress.

My point about Obama is that he takes this anti-”don’t ask, don’t tell” position because he was speaking to a gay magazine. For as far-left as he is, I don’t think he’s willing to play games with the lives of our military, just so some gays can feel comfortable about openly expressing their sexuality.

This issue, when combined with other issues such as his relationship with Jeremiah Wright, doesn’t prove that Barack Obama is a far-left radical; but it does prove that he’s willing to pander to the far-left radicals — which might be just as bad.

I don’t have a problem with “don’t ask, don’t tell”, but I honestly can’t see why we can’t have a “tell, but we won’t care” policy.

I mean, if you’re on the front lines, or anywhere in the military, the same rules of behavior should apply, right?

    Treat your co-workers with respect.
Don’t make sexual advances toward them.
Don’t degrade anyone based on sexual orientation, just as you wouldn’t degrade them if they were another race, or another gender.

Is the problem really just that 10% of the military are homophobes and just can’t control themselves?

Maybe they should leave the military - for the good of the service? Let the 90% of the military that can handle the situation perform the job.
